About Traveling Mounts

A simple Hytale mount mod which takes the base vanilla horse and other Hytale creatures and expands it into a full pack of exciting traveling companion mounts.

Beautifuly enhanced vanilla creature models with a variety of colors and other special mount variants, including some tamed hostile creatures. Each mount was improved in Blockbench, so they look nice and have comfy seats! I focused on gameplay imersion of traveling while sitting on the mount with a satisfying feel to it. And I love adding back rests everywhere

Mounts have very simple AI, focusing mainly on having a nice looking ride to enjoy while traveling across the vast landscapes of Hytale's world. Mounts dont move on their own, they wait in idle animation and can be easily mounted just like vanilla horse, good for just parking them somewhere to wait there or as a decoration too, knowing they wont get lost. They take damage just like the vanilla horse does but dont drop any loot. All mounts have the same speed and health curently. They dont take fall damage. The server should remember all spawned mounts as they have 'isMemory: true' value included similar to vanilla horses. I didnt test this much, but havent seen them despawn so far.

Mounts can be simply crafted in a form of packed mount crates. Since the aim was to keep it simple, and I didnt want to mess with world generation and spawning logic or taming, each mount has its own craftable item which you can hold in your hand and then right click on the ground to unpack your mount(one time use). Basically its a spawn egg, but with a fancy name because I didnt wanted to call it like something taken from creative inventory lol. Packed mount items cant be placed as building blocks, right clicking anywhere with the item will unpack your mount. Packed mount items can't be stacked to make the storage slightly more interesting.

CRAFTING RECIPES - how to craft Packed Mounts Goat Mount and Horse Mount are the base mounts which can be crafted using the Farmer's Workbench. Horses with colored cloths need Farmer's Workbench tier 2. Hostile tamed mounts Hound and Hyenas need Arcanist's Workbench. (See spoiler for images)

Base Packed Mounts can be found in Farmer's Workbench:

Hostile tames mounts are found in Arcanist's Workbench:

- Goat Mount (with a cart) - Horse Mount - Black Cloth Horse Mount - Red Cloth Horse Mount - Blue Cloth Horse Mount - Green Cloth Horse Mount - Hound Mount - Hyenas Mount

(hopefully good compatibility) Each mount has its own separate file so there shouldn't be any conflicts with other mods. They only share sound effects and animations with vanilla creatures, with some exceptions like the hyenas and goat having their own set of animations included since there are two hyenas and the mounts have carts which are also animated.

Mounts can get stuck in the walls - a common bug in Hytale where the game tries to quickly move you backwards from being stuck inside solid blocks while you are holding W(forward - holding W in this case starts to move you quickly backward). The issue here is that player sits slightly at the back of the model so if you accidentaly 'scratch' a wall behind you at the wrong angle(player model slightly clips into a block), trying to turn away from the wall and moving forward, Hytale will think you are getting stuck head first and just starts to move you backwards right into the wall, or a mountain lmao. So I dont recommend going into caves and such tight, geometry heavy places. Most noticable with mounts where the palyer sits back in the cart, mounts where you sit on top of their back are mostly okay. But you can use this for fun if you want, just squeeze near some tight wall, turn on the spot with your back towards the wall and move forward, which yeets you backwards, sinking into whatever landscape is behind you.

Some animations feel clunky - all mounts are fully animated, including the carts moving, except some parts like jumping feels a bit weird. When getting off the mount, they are motionless for a second before their idle animation kicks in, I dont know why it does this. Also, I had some issues exporting goat's cart animations and only the wheels ended up working for some reason. Hyenas cart works and moves better, but I animated only the run animation for now since I didnt know if it would break or not. I will try to look at this later, as the goat's cart animations are actually super fun to look at, so I will try to get them to work.

Mounts not moving forward - if you get stuck for a tiny moment, the mount stops moving forward, you just need to press backwards or jump and it will work again.

Player model doesnt motion with the mount's running animation - this is because Hytale currently sits the player fixed in one position and just applies some animations, basicaly what you see currently when riding the vanilla horse.

Summary of issues: can get stuck if you go crazy in tight areas and slightly clunky animations if you focus too much on it.

As of version 1.01, current plan for future update is: - adding a ram as another mount, and some winter-oriented mounts and more later, as people have so many good ideas already! - improving npc behavior, still keeping it simple but also add more options for interactions, movements and possible ability to pickup your mount back into the Packed Mount crate. - Im not a big fan of mods having too many additional features just to make the main feature work, but I might add a separate category for crafting recipes in the workbench so the recipes dont need to share space with other usefull items that player needs to craft. Experimental: Im learning how the npc roles work in Hytale and there is a lot to learn and understand. Im trying to make the mounts be able to store and hold items somehow, surprisngly all npc models are able to hold items in their hands lol! You can try it yourself by changing your player model with the editor in creative mode. Someone also suggested if mounts would be able to travel to some position on their own, there is a way how to store some position data to each npc so I will try to do something with it.

To other, more tech-oriented modders: If you are also trying out making custom npc roles and npc behavior and might be interested in this project, feel free to contact me! Im in Hytale's discord server as Caley19 and here is me on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/hytale/comments/1qkkrew/working_on_custom_traveling_mounts/ (shamelessly sharing my own post). Im mostly an artist guy so Im trying to figure out what I can, but a help with improving movement and npc behavior would be awesome. In the meantime, I do hope that Hytale devs will greatly improve these aspects, definitely including better mount controller and taming in my opinion.
